Our Nursing Team assist the Doctors in the practice and provide the following services: cervical smears, elderly health checks, new patient medicals and the monitoring of various conditions including diabetes, asthma, HRT and cardiovascular problems. They are also able to offer advice on a wide range of medical issues including minor illness and travel abroad.

The Practice has two Health Care Assistants who hold clinics to take blood tests, syringe ears, administer B12 injections and run ECG tests.

The FENT, or Frail and Elderly Nursing Team, is a team of nurses, based at the Whalley Practice, who work alongside local care homes and in the community, to offer in-home care and support for the most vulnerable members of our community. The FENT, alongside the excellent in home care they provide, are able to advise on accessing mobility aids, 24-hour live in care and many other areas. The FENT are accessible via referral from a GP or other Healthcare professional. If you believe yourself, or someone you know, may benefit from assistance and care from FENT, you can contact the surgery for more information.

Clinical Pharmacists work across the PCN. Their role involves reviewing patient medication and some long term conditions such as hypertension. They have also played a key role in the running of our COVID Vaccination clinics held at the Clitheroe Health Centre.

Mr Conor Corbett is the Clinical Pharmacist based at the Whalley Practice and works full time running clinics both in person and over the telephone.

Mental Health Professionals

 We now have a mental health clinic at the surgery. Mr David Venn offers face to face and telephone appointments for patients struggling with any aspect of their mental health. David operates the clinic from the Whalley Practice every Friday. To book, phone us at 01254 919888.

First Contact Practitioner

We also have a new FCP at the surgery, Mr Pete Burns. Pete is an experienced MSK specialist, who has the advanced skills necessary to assess, diagnose and recommend appropriate treatment or referral for musculoskeletal (MSK) problems. Pete is based at the Whalley site, and offers assistance with any joint or muscle pains that would typically be treated with physiotherapy. Pete runs his clinic on Tuesday’s, and appointments can be booked by phoning our reception team on 01254 919888.

Office Staff

The administration team are responsible for keeping records up to date, referring patients to hospital, dealing with incoming hospital letters, insurance form requests, arranging clinics and immunisations etc.

Reception Team

The reception team deal with all appointments, requests for home visits, test results and telephone queries etc. If you are requesting a home visit, please contact the surgery before 10am so this can be arranged. If you are requesting any test results, please contact after 2pm.

Dispensary

The dispensary team deal with all the requests for repeat prescriptions and dispense drugs to patients who live in our dispensary area. They also work closely with local chemists in arranging prescriptions for home delivery to patients. For any queries, or to order a repeat prescription, you can reach the Whalley dispensary team by phoning 01254 919888, and pressing option 2 after 2pm.

There is a Receptionist/Dispenser at our branch surgery at Sabden who is available to deal with any queries regarding appointments, home visits, test results etc. They also process requests for repeat prescriptions and dispense the drugs ready for patients to collect.

Midwifery
A team of Community Midwives are attached to the Practice and hold clinics at Whalley Surgery on Wednesdays and Thursday afternoons. To register your pregnancy and self refer, visit the ELHT maternity website below or call the Blackburn Birth Centre on 01254 733434.
