Job summary
The General Practice Assistant will support the smooth running of clinics by performing the more routine administration and basic clinical tasks on behalf of the GP, freeing up their time to focus on the patient.
The GPA must ensure that they work within and recognise their scope of practice, escalating any concerns to the GP.
This is a supportive role with a mixture of clinical and administrative work.
It is a role that is officially a Ribblesdale PCN role, but the successful candidate will work at Sabden and Whalley practice only and will be under the HR care of the practice.
Main duties of the job
The role is a mixture of clinical skills – similar to HCA skills- and administrative work:
Sorting all clinical post and prioritising for the GP in terms of actions. Signposting some post to others such as clinical pharmacist etc.
Extracting all information from clinical letters that needs coding and adding to notes.
Arranging appointments, referrals, tests and follow up appointments of patients.
Supporting GP with basic observations as required e.g., dipping urine, taking blood pressure, ECGs & phlebotomy.
Completing basic (non-opinion) forms and core elements of some forms for the GP to approve and sign such as insurance forms, mortgage, benefits agency forms etc.
Upload forms to IGPR and liaise with IGPR for forms; invoicing and payments
Explaining treatment procedures to patients as requested by the GP.
Helping the GP liaise with outside agencies e.g., getting an on-call doctor on the phone to ask advice or arrange admission while the GP can continue with their consultation(s).

We are a friendly, supportive team based in Whalley situated in the beautiful Ribble Valley.
5 partners, 6 salaried GPs, ANP, 5 nurses, 2 HCAs, and a large reception and admin team, we are also a long standing training practice for GP training. We also have a housebound nurse team attached to the practice for our care home and housebound patients.
WE also have a PCN team that work with our patients, including a pharmacist, pharmacy techs; and a physio. We also have an onsite dispensary at both sites- to give all of our patients a good quality experience at the surgery.
The team work well together , making the surgery a harmonious place to work.
We have a highly productive working relationship with the practices within our PCN. A high QOF achiever we pride ourselves on constantly striving to improve the patient experience.

Essential
* Either hold or be willing to undertake a GP Assistant Skills Certificate qualification.
* Experience of working in a primary care environment
* Experience of continued professional development
Desirable
* NHS/primary care general practice experience
Qualifications

* Either hold or be willing to undertake a GP Assistant Skills certificate
* Phlebotomy training- or willing to learn phlebotomy
