Laboratory Delays at ELHT

We are aware of recent incidents where blood samples have been rejected by the hospital laboratory due to being deemed “too old” for testing. We want to reassure our patients that these delays are not due to any actions by our Practice staff. This issue originates at the hospital and is currently affecting all GP practices in the area.

We understand how frustrating it is to be asked to return for a second blood test, and we share that frustration. These situations place an additional strain on both patients and our team, who must allocate further time and resources to repeat tests.

The matter has been formally raised with East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust (ELHT) and the local Integrated Care Board (ICB), and we are awaiting a response. We will continue to monitor the situation closely and update you as more information becomes available.
