Cervical Screening Awareness Week is an annual event which will run from the 19th to the 24th of June 2023. The week aims to highlight the importance of regular cervical screening for women’s health.
Going for your cervical screening isn’t always easy, and everyone’s experience is different. So many changes in life, from big milestones to how we feel day-to-day, can have an impact.
Cervical cancer is the most common form of cancer in women under 35 with two women in the UK per day dying from the disease. Regular cervical screening appointments can prevent up to 75% of instances of cervical cancer, saving 5000 lives per year. Despite this, many women are reluctant to have this test done with a quarter of women not responding to their screening invitation. Cervical Screening Awareness Week is organised by the charity Jo’s trust, a charity dedicated to women affected by cervical cancer or abnormalities.
We’re supporting Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust because we want you to have all the facts about this potentially life-saving test. Did you know almost one in three women and other people with a cervix don’t take up their invite? We want to change that, and you can help!
This Cervical Screening Awareness Week, Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust are sharing different experiences from women and other people with a cervix: screening after giving birth, after menopause, after transitioning, after receiving the first invitation, and after being refused it altogether.

Ending cervical cancer means increasing awareness and uptake of the HPV vaccination and cervical screening. It also means action to help prevent even more cases and improve how we diagnose, treat and care for those living with and beyond cervical cancer. No one should be left behind.
