Long COVID in Children and Young People

Most people with COVID-19 feel better within a few days or weeks of their first symptoms and make a full recovery within 12 weeks. For some people, symptoms can last longer.

This is called long COVID or post COVID-19 syndrome. Long COVID is a new condition which is still being studied.

A full list of symptoms can be found at Long-term effects of COVID-19 (long COVID) – NHS (www.nhs.uk) but the most common symptoms are:

  • Fatigue (extreme tiredness)
  • Feeling short of breath
  • Loss of smell
  • Muscle aches

Long COVID can be particularly difficult to manage for young people, who have the upcoming pressures of educational deadlines, or the anxiety of facing new employers.
